Hello!

I’m Dr Maren Deepwell and this is my domain on the open web. My interests span education and the not for profit sector and I bring creativity and curiosity to my work as a leader and a coach. With a background in Educational Technology, Anthropology and Fine Art I am as passionate about pen and paper as I am about the newest digital technologies and I write about everything from stationary to strategy.

This blog, my podcast and newsletter are the best ways to connect and get in touch with me.

I work as an independent consultant with organisations and (emerging) leaders in education and the not-for-profit sector as an executive trouble shooter, strategic advisor and coach. I specialise in authentic leadership and unconventional career development, digital wellbeing and sustainability. Find out more about my work and get in touch via my business site.

  • The year in blog posts… 2024
Over the last couple of years I have started to round up the year with a final post of blogging about blogging. Last year’s post told the story of the 72 posts I wrote in 2023, and this year I am sitting pretty on… well, read on to find out. Back in June I took stock halfway through the year, and found that I had I published 35 blog posts in the first six months…
  • Jolly Holidays on the Open Web

Meanwhile, across the various social media spaces I take part in, corporate messages of (apparent) goodwill mix uneasily with cheery commercial overload, making it hard to find the actual updates from actual people I care about.…
  • A thank you… for 2024
It’s been quite a year. My first full calendar year running my own micro business. My year of getting back into running. Of travelling more, and working a little less. My year of counting days spent on the beach and following the golden seam of creativity to wherever it may lead. Amidst all the ups and downs in my own life, my professional communities and the world at large, here I am at the end…
  • Christmas Jumper Day. A story.
This is a seasonal blog post I am sharing in the spirit of a bit of festive fun. Before you read the story, find out more about Christmas Jumper Day, which in the UK we celebrate on Thursday, 12th December this year, and which raises funds for Save the Children. The story was inspired by my dog Posey ‘trying on’ a jumper recently, which gave me a welcome excuse to write a story and then…
  • ‘Braided’ Blogging: Reflecting on collaboration
I’m always interested in new ways to keep blogging and recently I had the opportunity to try a new approach, which we might call ‘braided’ blogging.  This came about through a coaching conversation with Mark Corbett Wilson, whose blog, Talking with Machines, is definitely worth a visit. With a rich background in making art, storytelling and digital technologies, Mark is always up for trying new ways of collaborating on the open web and for this…
