I am really excited to share a glimpse at my next project: How to… Lead Virtual Teams – a course in ten podcasts. What is it like to manage a virtual team and to lead an organisation from home? How can you not only meet budget targets and KPIs but balance business needs with employee happiness and wellbeing? My aim for Leading Virtual Teams as a book was to explore current practice in succeeding in…
It’s been such a pleasure to celebrate the launch of the Leading Virtual Teams book last week, and a special moment for me as it is my first solo book publication. This post brings all the resources and information about the book together in one place, so whether you’d like to catch up or take a deeper dive, jump right in: About the book Leading Virtual Teams – Field Notes from a CEO by Dr Maren…
With the holiday season coming up, our team has had a long overdue in person Team Day and we are also planning a virtual get together in a few weeks. These social activities are important to virtual teams, and I really value the opportunity to spend time with colleagues in a more relaxed way. Blended approaches to working together can help shape the dynamic of the year, and punctuate long periods of remote working with…
Today is an exciting day for me, as my book goes out into the world. It’s my first experience of this kind of publication, and feels quite different from anything I have published before. As an Open Access publication, the book is immediately and freely available to download and read online and I am really looking forward to celebrating the launch of the book this evening in conversation with ALT’s Chair, Professor Helen O’Sullivan. Thanks…
This month I am making the final edits, before sending the book to the publisher for copy editing in mid August. I have also been working on the cover and thinking about what resources and activities I want to work on ahead of the book launch later this year. As summer is the busiest time for me at work, progress is slow going just now, and I am making the most of the warm weather…

We chose a mail order baking kit for vegan & gluten free lemon cakes, which should be made easily and quickly within an hour which we set…
Book news Work on the book is making good progress at the moment. I am focusing on working through edits and responding to feedback from reviewers. Meanwhile I am also working with the publisher on the format, layout and cover. As Leading Virtual Teams will be published online under an open licence, we want to make it as accessible as possible. This month I am also planning ahead for the summer, setting out deadlines for…
Book news After finishing a complete draft of the book in April, my reviewer group has been busy working through each chapter. I have ~20 volunteer reviewers who provide feedback and I am really grateful for all the work they have been doing. This week, by 6th May, the review period comes to a close and at that point it will be my job to work through the comments and feedback and get the next draft…
Book news BOOM! This month I am excited to share that I have completed the first draft of the book. It’s actually more like draft no. 3, but up to now I hadn’t ever written the conclusion, and now I have. Now my 48,570 words or ~160 pages of work in progress have been shared with internal reviewers for comment and feedback until early May 2022. If you’d like to help review the book, please…
