  • Rounding up 2013, ready for 2014

    At the end of 2013 I participated in the Online Educa Berlin conference, amongst other things contribution to a session on Open Educational Resources with a presentation about Professional Development in the Open: Collaborative MOOC on Technology Enhanced Learning (ocTEL).

    With the new year now underway, I am looking forward to getting back to work, including

    • the FELTAG online conversation, consulting the community about Learning Technology in FE #FELTAG;
    • attending this year’s Bett Show and seeing what’s new;
    • preparing for the next running of the ocTEL course in Technology Enhanced Learning.

    Back from the ALT annual conference, this year celebrating 20 years of ALT and catching up with all the things I missed over the past three days. In addition to all the blog posts and tweets, one news items that caught my eye this morning is the Technology in FE and Skills supplement published today by FE Week. There is a short interview with me in it and a lot of interesting features with participants from across the conference, including the Learning Technologist of the Year Award #ltaward. I will also have a look at the open online platform to watch some of the already aired YouTube interviews from the live broadcast. Looking forward to next year in Warwick!

    Lego calendar

    Together with Martin Oliver from the Institute of Education, I was speaking at Bett 2013 this week on “Open Learnscapes: strategy and global collaboration”. The agenda/details are available via the BETT website. At Bett I also had the chance to find out about what LEGO is doing in education in relation to teaching children programming and engineering skills.

    Looking forward to attending Online Educa in Berlin towards the end of this month. Also completing my CMALT portfolio and getting ready for Christmas. 
    On my personal blog I’ve recently posted pictures of a new chocolate graveyard made for Halloween as well as some architectural LEGO models of schools made by school children which I saw on a recent visit to London.
    The archive of the cemteryscapes blog is now fully up and running. 
    And the scarves have been liberated from their summer hibernation. My favourite time of year is in full swing.

    Icognito, Paris

    I started the month in France and this month’s picture is a snapshot from the trip – a very small gallery which really makes the most of the space it occupies. 
    I have also had the pleasure to attend FOTE11 last week (see the FOTE11 blog for more info) and came away with a lot of interesting things to think about. I’ll also be at the AoC/ALT conference, ‘ Management Strategies to Improve the use of Learning Technologies‘ in London this week, which I am really looking forward to. 
    On my personal blog I have started posting some pictures of the architecture/places which I visited, so you can have a look at a brick book house amongst other things.
