From senior leaders to new recruits, everyone in Learning Technology has been working flat out to prepare for the start of the new academic year and continuing to cope with the impact of the pandemic.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Whilst it is gratifying to see the importance of the profession coming to the forefront in many organisations across sectors, the challenges we continue to face are enormous and the stakes are high for staff and learners alike.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Even without the usual preparations for our Annual Conference, we have had an exceptionally busy few months supporting Members, sharing expertise and providing input to policy makers.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Here is a quick summary of key developments:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>ALT\u2019s&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.alt.ac.uk\/civicrm\/event\/info?reset=1&amp;id=527\">Annual General Meeting<\/a>&nbsp;on 24 June 2020 was well attended and Members met ALT\u2019s new Chair,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.alt.ac.uk\/news\/all_news\/professor-helen-osullivan-appointed-board-trustees\">Professor Helen O\u2019Sullivan<\/a>, Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Education), Keele University and President, David White, Head of Digital Learning at the University of the Arts London. I urge you to sign the pledge and support it if you can;<\/li><li>ALT is also providing input to UUK\u2019s Task &amp; Finish Group in Transnational Education as well as Jisc\u2019s Learning and Teaching Reimagined initiative, for which the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.alt.ac.uk\/civicrm\/event\/info?reset=1&amp;id=549\">next workshop hosted by ALT i<\/a>s on 16 September;<\/li><li>ALT\u2019s first Summer Summit meanwhile attracted 281 Learning Technology professionals from 24 countries, providing access to&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/altc.alt.ac.uk\/summit2020\/summit-resources\/\">resources and new research<\/a>&nbsp;which will soon be&nbsp; available to all Members and the wider community.&nbsp;<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">To support Members through the start of the new term, we have a full programme of events and activities planned for autumn, including:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.alt.ac.uk\/events\">Weekly webinars<\/a>&nbsp;free to attend<\/li><li><a href=\"https:\/\/journal.alt.ac.uk\/index.php\/rlt\">New research<\/a>&nbsp;adding to the 32 papers already published this year<\/li><li>Weekly news digest via which&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.alt.ac.uk\/news\/alt-news-digest\">vacancies can be advertised<\/a>&nbsp;and the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.alt.ac.uk\/consultant-directory\">Members Directory&nbsp;<\/a>of consultants and services<\/li><li>Extra support for professional development to meet the extra demand from&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.alt.ac.uk\/certified-membership\">CMALT<\/a>&nbsp;candidates&nbsp;<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We are seeking input from Members to ALT\u2019s response to the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.officeforstudents.org.uk\/news-blog-and-events\/press-and-media\/digital-poverty-risks-leaving-students-behind\/\">Sir Michael Barber Review of Learning and Teaching Online<\/a>, and if you would like to contribute, please email me&nbsp;<a href=\"mailto:ceo@alt.ac.uk\">ceo@alt.ac.uk<\/a>&nbsp;.<br><br>Looking a few months ahead, we will be holding our usual Online Winter Conference, which this year will celebrate the Learning Technologist of the Year Awards. By popular request we are establishing a very special community award for all Learning Technologists, so save the date.
